Working with clear acrylic is notoriously challenging, especially when using diode lasers. Engraving this material typically requires special coatings or sprays, and cutting it is almost impossible without a CO₂ laser. However, with the Tyvok Spider S1 CNC module, we were able to overcome these hurdles and achieve exceptional results in both engraving and cutting clear acrylic.
In this project, we set out to create a jewelry box using clear acrylic. Traditionally, diode lasers struggle to engrave clear acrylic effectively, requiring the material to be coated. However, the Tyvok Spider S1's advanced artist module, combined with an engraving pen, allowed us to engrave intricate patterns directly onto the clear acrylic without the need for any additional coatings or treatments. The precision of the S1 system enabled us to achieve detailed and smooth engravings.
The real breakthrough came when we used the CNC module of the Tyvok Spider S1 to cut the clear acrylic. While standard diode lasers can't cut through this material, the CNC module made the task not only possible but also highly accurate, producing clean edges and precise cuts. This combination of engraving and cutting highlights the versatility of the Tyvok Spider S1, allowing users to work on clear acrylic even without access to high-end CO₂ laser systems.
The result was a stunning jewelry box that showcases both the artistic potential and the structural precision that the Tyvok Spider S1 can offer. The box is a perfect example of how the CNC module can elevate projects involving difficult materials like clear acrylic, opening up new possibilities for makers and artists alike.
