Artwork Jumps While Dragging: Check Auto-Snapping Before Retrying

If artwork jumps toward a nearby line or center while you drag it, inspect the editor's snapping options and test the movement with unwanted targets disabled. Use measured coordinates for final placement where the application supports them. Repeatedly dragging against the same attraction point is unlikely to produce a reliable position.

xTool's positioning documentation describes alignment behavior involving object edges, centers, and grid lines. These are useful clues for diagnosing an editor problem. They are not instructions for connecting xTool software to an A1 Mini or proof that a TYVOK application has identical switches.

Separate a snap from a selection mistake

Watch which object highlights before movement begins. If a large border moves while the small icon stays still, snapping is not the first problem to solve: the wrong object is selected. Overlapping bounds can obscure that difference at a small scale. The small-path selection check addresses that branch before position is adjusted.

If the correct artwork is selected and only its final position changes abruptly near another feature, make a duplicate working file. Check the documented controls for snapping, grid attraction, alignment guides, or object targets in the application actually in use. Change one category at a time, where possible, so the cause remains visible.

Reproduce the movement with a simple test

Suppose a small icon should have its left edge 4mm from the left edge of a rectangular badge. A nearby grid line lies 5mm from that badge edge. Dragging repeatedly places the icon on the grid line, although the cursor moves closer to the requested location.

Confirm that the artwork and badge use the same coordinate frame. Disable the relevant grid attraction if supported, select the icon's left-edge position reference, and enter the intended coordinate. If the editor uses the icon center instead, account for half its width. Do not treat an unexplained X value as an edge measurement.

A coordinate entered in the design does not establish physical placement on the material. The machine's origin and workpiece positioning still need their normal verification before processing.

Text that moves after editing needs another test

If a name shifts only after its letters change, snapping may be unrelated. The text box might resize around a center anchor, or a width constraint might change the layout. Variable-name width and text anchoring treats that position-change branch. Test both a short and a long name while keeping the intended reference point visible.

Apply the fix in the confirmed A1 Mini setup

The A1 Mini page lists a 120 × 130mm working area for compact blue-diode projects. Check the supported editing and transfer workflow for the actual configuration. A competitor's screenshot can explain a concept, but it cannot establish A1 Mini software compatibility or clearance for a physical jig.

Should I turn off every alignment aid permanently?

No. Keep the aids that help the job, provided you understand their targets. Disable the specific attraction that obstructs the intended placement and verify the resulting position.

Why does the object still jump after grid snapping is off?

Other targets, constrained movement, or the wrong selected object may remain involved. Inspect object and guide snapping separately, then test a simple shape in a copy of the file to isolate the behavior.
