Tiny Trophy Magnets: Keep the Backing Inside the Silhouette

Cut or choose the magnetic backing so it stays behind the edge of a small wooden trophy magnet. The engraved name sits on the front, so backing does not hide its letters; the defect is a dark or sticky edge peeking around the trophy shape, or a backing piece that catches when the gift is handled. Check this after the wood is marked and before the adhesive sets.

Check the back from the front

Turn the engraved trophy face down and trace its outline on paper. Make a backing template smaller than the narrow cup handles and base corners. Attach a test backing only after the laser job has ended and the wood is clean and cool. Then look at the front from several angles, run a finger gently around the edge, and place the magnet on the intended surface. A central magnet may hold differently from a full backing sheet, so test the chosen component rather than assuming the options are interchangeable.

Keep loose magnets away from children and follow the magnet supplier's handling and adhesive instructions. Do not laser an unidentified magnetic sheet or adhesive laminate. A cleanly engraved front does not make the finished assembly child-safe or guarantee holding strength.

Match the A1 Mini to a real blank

The TYVOK A1 Mini product page lists a 120 × 130 mm working area. Confirm the entire precut trophy and fixture fit the selected setup. Engrave only known laser-compatible wood, verify focus and framing, extract fumes and supervise. Add the magnetic component separately afterward.

Can the backing extend beyond the wood for a stronger hold?

It may create a visible, snagging or adhesive-exposed edge. Choose a suitable component and test real holding on the intended surface while keeping the finished silhouette clean.

Should I engrave the magnetic sheet before gluing?

No such compatibility is established here. Keep unknown magnetic or adhesive materials outside the laser workflow and personalize the verified wood face only.
