Quoting 300 Customer Items: Time Unboxing and Reboxing

A 300-piece customer batch includes work that a machine preview never counts: receiving cartons, inspecting condition, matching quantities, exposing the mark area and repacking in the original order. Time those states on a representative sample carton.

Observe the handling nobody sees

A February 2026 pricing thread directly concerns 300 customer-supplied items and advises counting unboxing, setup, engraving, reboxing and machine wear. Demand source. Measure minutes for count/condition photos, unboxing, fixture loading, proof, two-sided handling if required, QC and reboxing. Separate hands-on time from machine time and note how many items fit a safe fixture without assuming X1S Pro is best for small pieces.

Turn one sample into a time study

Decision point Evidence to retain Hold condition
Receiving Count and condition photos Separate pre-existing damage
Handling Unbox/rebox sample time Do not use motion time only
Process Fixture density and proof time Machine fit stays conditional
Exceptions Reject/rework/replacement owner Written terms before batch

Write ownership for pre-existing damage, failed proofs and replacement blanks before intake. Scale from the observed sample with an exception allowance instead of multiplying ideal motion time by 300.

Write exception ownership before receiving

The time study is complete only when the sample carton returns to a shippable state and exceptions have owners. Machine preview time is one row in that record, not the total batch estimate.

Worked record for exceptions

Example: if ten pieces require 14 minutes to inspect and unbox, 22 minutes of fixture handling, and 11 minutes to inspect and rebox, the observed handling baseline is 47 minutes per ten—not 300 times the laser preview. Add exception time separately and retain the carton/sample assumptions.

TYVOK X1S Pro boundary for receiving

X1S Pro is not automatically best for 300 small items. Document every SKU substrate, coating and adhesive; refuse unknown, PVC or chlorinated construction, then run one eligible supervised proof with extraction and fire readiness. Confirm the current TYVOK X1S Pro configuration before purchase or use.

Buyer questions about process

Why time unboxing separately?

Customer-supplied items can require counting, inspection, handling and repacking before and after laser work.

Is X1S Pro automatically best for 300 small items?

No. Compare fixture density, handling and proof time with the actual order.

Who pays for damaged blanks?

Set intake condition, replaceability and exception ownership in writing before production.
