An enclosing border can change which regions of a nested vector design are filled. If a solid logo becomes hollow immediately after adding a surrounding shape, compare the inside-and-outside relationships before blaming focus or power. The new border may have changed the interpretation of the same paths.
A software discussion about nested contours includes a LightBurn example in which adding an outer contour changes a filled circle's appearance. The main discussion concerns a different machining workflow, so its tool settings do not apply to P2 engraving. The relevant observation is the relationship between closed boundaries.
Reproduce the change on a copy
Keep the logo without the border as a reference. Add the border in a duplicate, then compare the output preview with the same operation assignments. Identify exactly which region changed: the logo interior, the space around it or both.
Do not immediately join every path. A letter counter, such as the opening in an O, may be intentionally unmarked. Combining shapes without understanding the intended regions can fix one patch while filling in another important opening.
Draw the marked areas before editing paths
On a paper or screen reference, identify what should be marked and what should remain blank. This simple distinction is more useful than saying that the logo should look "normal."

Use the software's documented grouping and operation controls on a copy to express the intended result, then inspect the complete preview. If several independent paths already leave irregular gaps before the border is added, the multiple-path fill diagnostic is the more relevant starting point.
Appearance is not always geometry
An SVG can also show a pattern that is merely a stroke effect. The dotted-stroke versus real-hole example illustrates why a design can look correct in its source editor yet produce different paths after import. For this logo, confirm the actual closed contours and assigned operations rather than relying on the source thumbnail.
The P2's compact work area makes small unmarked regions easy to overlook when artwork is reduced. Confirm the supported software route for the selected machine, inspect the final-size file and use an approved material sample. A corrected fill preview establishes intended software output, not a guarantee of physical contrast or detail.
Can I put the border on a separate operation?
That may be appropriate when the border should be traced and the emblem filled. Use the documented controls in your compatible software and verify the resulting preview; moving a shape without checking its operation is insufficient.
Why did removing the border fix the logo?
It is evidence that the new enclosing geometry affected interpretation. It does not prove the original paths are perfect. Compare the counters and small gaps in the restored version before accepting it.
