Rubber Stamp Prints Backward? Check Mirror and Image Polarity

Check two separate properties before making a rubber stamp: the face must transfer lettering in the intended reading direction, and the areas meant to carry ink must remain raised. Mirroring changes reading direction. Positive-versus-negative artwork determines which areas remain or are removed. One correction cannot substitute for the other.

xTool's stamp-making guidance explicitly includes mirroring. Its workflow addresses a real source of stamp errors, but its equipment settings should not be transferred to an X1S Pro.

Define the impression before preparing the face

Write down what the finished mark must show on paper. A small shop stamp might need dark letters and a narrow border with clean paper between them. That description becomes the reference when the rubber-face preview looks visually unfamiliar.

Use supplier-documented laser-compatible stamp rubber appropriate to the machine configuration. An unknown rubber sheet is not a suitable trial merely because it is inexpensive. Resolve material composition and required extraction before engraving. Do not use a successful burn as evidence of safe material chemistry.

A deliberately asymmetric practice design

For a hypothetical test, use “PACK 7” with a small triangle at the left edge of the intended paper impression. The word establishes reading direction and the triangle exposes left-right reversal. Preserve this intended impression as a separate reference image.

Prepare the face copy with the required mirror and distinguish the intended raised letters from the surrounding relief. Inspect a preview with a legend identifying “ink-bearing surface” and “removed background.” Screen colors alone are ambiguous because software display conventions and layer modes can differ.

Make one supervised sample before committing a production sheet. After appropriate handling and cleaning according to material guidance, ink it and press it on the actual packaging paper. Use consistent pressure during comparison. If the letters read correctly but the background prints as a block, investigate relief and ink application rather than mirroring the file again.

Keep the accepted impression beside the approved face file. Photographing only the engraved rubber omits the result the customer will actually use.

Preserve geometry through preparation

If imported stamp art contains excessive nodes, simplify a copy and compare its contours before the relief proof. Small letter interiors deserve particular attention. When a separate outline cut is included, also inspect imported-vector cut order; geometry and processing sequence are different checks.

The X1S Pro listing describes a large-format diode workflow. That general description is not approval for an unidentified stamp sheet or a promise of specific relief depth.

Should I mirror the file again if the software already has a mirror setting?

Check the resulting face preview against the intended paper impression. Applying two mirrors can restore the original orientation. Record where the transformation occurs so the next operator does not repeat it accidentally.

Can I approve the stamp from the screen preview alone?

No. The impression also depends on the physical relief, ink and paper. Approve a real impression on the intended surface before making the remaining stamps.
